McTimoney Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a tried and tested 200 year old method of alignment of the skeleton through subtle adjustments in order to facilitate the body to repair itself. The purpose of chiropractic care is to realign and rebalance your body to relieve pain and discomfort, and increase mobility. A misalignment of the joints can occur for many reasons, some physical, the most common and the most simple are your habits, falls and poor posture, others can be due to chemical or emotional stresses which the body is unable to integrate and adapt to. Misalignments can lead to pain, numbness, pins and needles, or restricted mobility due to hypo-mobile joints.

A chiropractic adjustment is a form of manual, controlled mobilisation used to restore motion to a joint which has become hypo-mobile and so has lost a degree of normal movement. It involves the application of  a specific and gentle technique in order to allow the body to restore normal spinal and nervous system function.

The McTimoney Chiropractic method is known for being a gentle and whole body approach to chiropractic care. The gentle nature of the McTimoney method makes it suitable for all; including young children, pregnant women and the elderly.

The following conditions can benefit from McTimoney Chiropractic care: Back pain, Neck pain, Shoulder pain, Migraine, Muscular aches, Sports Injuries and Arthritic Pain.

What to Expect

Initial McTimoney Chiropractic Consultation

The initial consultation will involve taking your medical history and conducting a full physical examination. The objective is to find out about you, your condition, and your health expectations and goals. The examination involves a full postural analysis and assessment of your spine, joints, nerves, muscles and ligaments that relate to your condition using orthopaedic testing. Any findings will be explained to you along with a treatment plan tailored to your needs. Please bring any relevant health or X-Ray reports with you. If at any point your McTimoney Chiropractor discovers or suspects a condition that requires medical intervention, you will be referred to your GP for further testing.

Treatment

It is normally fine to treat you in loose fitting clothing, although in some instances you may be required to remove some clothing. Privacy and a gown are always provided, but do tell your McTimoney Chiropractor if you feel uncomfortable about undressing. Normally patients will respond to treatment within 2-6 sessions. This is dependent upon several factors: your age, the nature of your condition, how long you have had the condition for, and what you do after the treatment.

Aftercare

After care is important to maximise recovery and wellbeing following your visit. This normally takes the form of stretches and exercises tailored to your condition. Advice is given on practical ways to improve posture to facilitate optimal health and prevent recurring injuries.
