Sports, Deep Tissue and Clinical Massage were developed to help athletes prepare their bodies for optimal performance, recover after a big event, or function well during training. However, contrary to what the name suggests, you don’t have to be an athlete to benefit from this kind of massage. Sports snd clinical massage emphasises prevention and healing of injuries to the muscles and tendons and can be beneficial for people with injuries, chronic pain or restricted range of motion. A variety of the following sport and clinical massage techniques may be used to achieve the desired goal:
The session begins with a full consultation and postural assessment of the body, to determine any issues which may be contributing to the muscle pain or tightness. A variety of any of the above clinical massage techniques may then be applied to achieve the desired goal.

Melanie is now also offering one to one Pilates lessons at HealthSpace for beginners and beginner improvers. They are aimed at those who would like to start Pilates and as a good foundation to join bigger more advanced classes or for those who would like to incorporate some self practice into their routine. Each exercise will start at foundation level to ensure correct muscle engagement before progressing further.
The aim of these sessions are to take your movement patterns and posture into consideration to provide exercises to help with chronic pain conditions, improve posture and to support you with daily activities. Pilates is a good foundation to other sport and exercise. These one to one sessions can be helpful on their own or as a good complement to regular soft tissue therapy.
